In fact the majestic palaces, the splendid forts and the other architectural edifices of historical significance tell interesting tales of the intrepid and valorous Rajput rulers who once exercised sovereignty over this north –western state of India. These tales of chivalry can be still heard in the folklores, folktales or ballads sung or performed by the locales of this state.
The history of Rajasthan is about 5000 years old and the origin of this colossal land adverts to the famous myth of Ram, the seventh avatar or incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It is believed that Ram aimed an arrow towards Lanka to burn the island where his wife was imprisoned by the demon king-Ravana. But instead of reaching that land the arrow turned towards the direction of the sea which resulted in the evaporation of all the water. The dry land which emerged due to the evaporation of water was the land of Rajasthan.
